Wanting to get out on the water- but unsure where to try?
Check out our guide to some of the best SUP beginner spots in Conwy county, North Wales:
1. Rhos on Sea Harbour
Ideal at Late Mid - High Tide, when the tide is pushing in.
A picturesque spot for paddle boarding around with plenty of cafes to choose from, and sandy beach just in front of the harbour.
Easy paddling, just take of the moorings around the boats and sharp barnacles on the sea defence. Shoes are a good idea here too.
2. Llyn Geirionydd - Inland lake in Snowdonia National Park.
Parking available at the lake with picnic spots and easy launching for your paddle board or canoe. Can get busy on weekends and holidays, and the drive up is narrow/winding.
3. Llandudno - West Shore - Late Mid - High Tide when the tide is pushing in.
Amazing views of Snowdonia, Conwy estuary, the Great Orme and Anglesey. Great place to watch the sunset too.
Easy launching from the beach, or in front of the West Shore Cafe lower down.
4. Llandudno - North Shore - Mid - High Tide when the tide is pushing in.
Pay to park along the promenade and paddle in front of the majestic Lower Pen Trwyn, Great Orme. Or head past the Llandudno Victorian Pier avoiding the fishermen at the end.
5. Colwyn Bay - Mid - High Tide when the tide is pushing in.
Park close to Porth Eirias (and visit our shop while you are at it), where there are facilities and public toilets nearby and there is now beach at all stages of the tide, even at high!
Bryn Williams Bistro serving coffee fine cuisine is just next door, as is the Venue Cyrmru box office and Evolution Bikes.
Careful of offshore winds.
6.Penrhyn Bay - Late Mid - High Tide, when the tide is pushing in.
Gets good shelter from the wind (anything with a westerly aspect). Nice secluded feel when the tide is high, and if you're lucky one of the resident seals might pop over to say hello. Please keep your distance though, although they are curious they do get nervous around people. They are after all wild animals and deserve our protection and respect.
Also a great spot for some wild open water swimming
