Description
Starboard's Gen R is the flat-deck race SUP that's spent the last two years quietly becoming the racer's-choice board in the Starboard line — bridging the gap between the flat-water-focused Sprint and the open-ocean All Star. The 2026 update brings a thinner, lighter design with a lower rail profile, a 1.5cm lower standing area for improved stability, and a refined rocker line that blends Gen R nose efficiency with All Star tail control. Available in four sizes from a competition-focused 14'0" × 21.5" up to a versatile 14'0" × 27", and three constructions: premium Blue Carbon Sandwich (lightest, stiffest), value-focused Blue Carbon, and the durable entry-level Lite Tech. A New Generation Of Racing
The new Gen R represents the latest evolution in race board design. Developed in response to the insights gathered after the 2023 ICF World Championships and input from paddlers at all skill levels, the new Gen R is designed to offer superior performance in various conditions, while being user friendly to all racers.
Product Features
Fast And Responsive
The All Star-inspired round tail gives the Gen R better glide, faster speeds and a more forgiving feel when paddling in the ocean. The tail has been designed to be responsive in turns and offers excellent water release.
Versatile Design
Flat water, technical racing, beach starts, and light-medium open ocean paddling are ideal for the new Gen R. The lighter, thinner design gives you more control and the ability to paddle in a wide range of race scenarios, from flat-water sprints to choppy downwind runs.
Thin And Light Design
The new Gen-R is thinner than its predecessor with less volume, making it lighter, faster and more nimble, particularly in side winds or during beach starts.
New Rails
The round rails on toward the nose rails give control and tracking in the side wind, offering the perfect balance of control and balance.
Extended Standing Area
The standing area on the new Gen-R has been extended further forwards for easy stance trimming in sprints and downwind.
New Rockerline
A blend of the previous Gen-R toward the nose, combined with the All Star toward the back of the board. Great control in rough conditions while offering amazing acceleration in flatwater.
Low Standing Area
The new Gen-R features a 1.5cm lower standing area than its predecessor. This slight drop results in a lower centre of gravity for the rider, improving overall stability and control.
Nose Vee
Designed to help shed water off the deck and improve the board's handling in chop and waves and enhancing the "pop" in choppy conditions.
Recessed EVA Handle
1cm EVA recessed handle gives a soft and forgiving grip during beach starts or when carrying the board. This handle is especially useful during running beach starts.
EVA Race Deflector
Designed for larger ocean chop, the deflector diverts water from entering the standing area.
Board Sock
Reduces paper waste and protects your board from dust, scratches and UV damage. Made of stretchable polyester, it fits various board shapes and has a secure drawstring closure.

Honest advice from us
The Gen R is Starboard's "racer's choice" — nicknamed the "flat deck All Star" because it bridges the gap between the flat-water Sprint and the open-ocean All Star with a flat-deck design that's easier to use than a dug-out. Which size? A clear racer-weight guide: 14'0" × 21.5" is the competition-focused size for riders under 75kg chasing maximum speed; 14'0" × 23" is the versatile race size for committed paddlers around the 85kg mark; 14'0" × 25" is the most popular size across all racer levels (junior to senior) suiting 60-105kg riders; 14'0" × 27" is the most versatile (race + touring with the baggage bungee tie-downs) and suits larger riders or anyone wanting genuine race-plus-cruise capability. Which construction? Blue Carbon Sandwich with Bag is the premium choice — lightest, stiffest, podium-spec, with UD Carbon rail reinforcements and a board bag included. Blue Carbon with Bag is the same shape with a more value-focused build (full carbon wrap, wood-reinforced standing area, board bag included) — meaningful saving for serious training and club-level racing. Lite Tech is the entry-level race construction — Australian pine standing area, unidirectional stringer bands, durable enough for school/club use and a popular choice for racers wanting affordable race-ready performance without the carbon price tag (board bag not included). A note on the Gen R range: Starboard discontinued the 14'0" × 29" for 2026 — if you're a heavier rider who needs maximum stability, look at the All Star (also in Môr's Starboard race range).
