Description

The Armstrong Downwind Ocean is the successor to the Downwind Performance — a refined, more compact, faster-paddling shape built around a new displacement hull. Where the outgoing DWP needed length to track straight, the Ocean uses hull design to achieve greater paddling speed and straighter tracking in a shorter, more manoeuvrable package. The result is a downwind board that's easier to throw around, quicker to pop up, and better-suited to the variable conditions most UK downwinders actually ride in.

Four sizes 95–125 L, lengths 7'8” through 8'10". Fully compatible with the Armstrong A+ System. From £2,179. Free UK postage.

Harness Offshore Ocean Energy

Product overview

Building on the legacy of the popular Downwind Performance board, the Downwind Ocean is slightly more compact and manoeuvrable while also being a faster paddling shape. The core evolution lies in its hull design which is now displacement rather than planing, leading to greater paddling speed and straighter tracking without needing the length of the prior Performance board.

Available in four sizes covering riders from light to heavy and conditions from open ocean swells to harnessing modest North Wales wind chop.

Key features

Displacement hull design. The fundamental evolution from the planing-hull Downwind Performance. Cuts through water rather than skating across it — delivers higher paddling speed and straight tracking without needing extreme length.

More compact than the DWP it replaces. Shorter overall length for the same volume — easier to manoeuvre on the beach, in the surf zone, and through transitions on the water.

Faster paddling shape. Hull-design-led efficiency means less effort to maintain glide and easier connections between bumps.

Armstrong A+ System foil tracks. Industry-leading foil connection, modular and compatible with every Armstrong front foil.

Premium board construction. Armstrong's signature build quality, ridden by team riders pushing the limits of what's possible in downwind foiling.

Size guide

95 L (7'8"). Lightest, smallest size — advanced lighter riders chasing speed and manoeuvrability.

105 L (8'2"). Sweet spot for intermediate-advanced 70–85 kg riders.

115 L (8'6"). All-rounder for riders 80–95 kg.

125 L (8'10"). Maximum lift / progression — heavier riders, learners stepping up, or anyone wanting the easiest paddle-up.

Honest advice from us

The Downwind Ocean is the right downwind board for most UK riders. The displacement hull and shorter length make it more practical for the British coast than the long-and-narrow Downwind Performance it replaced.

Which size? A rough weight guide:

  • 95 L for advanced light riders (under 70 kg) chasing speed
  • 105 L for intermediate-advanced 70–85 kg
  • 115 L for 80–95 kg riders — the all-rounder size
  • 125 L for heavier riders, learners, or maximum paddle-up ease

Ocean vs Mk III. Armstrong also offer the Downwind Mk III (which Môr already stocks). The Mk III is the planing-hull traditional downwind board — longer, more conventional shape, more familiar feel. The Ocean is the newer displacement-hull successor to the DWP — more compact, faster paddling. If you've owned a Downwind Performance before, the Ocean is the natural next board. If you've owned a Downwind Mk II or are coming from a SUP background, the Mk III might feel more familiar.

About this board in North Wales. Conwy Bay and Liverpool Bay produce good downwind days throughout autumn and winter. The Ocean's compact footprint suits running the bays into the prevailing wind — you'll appreciate the easier handling on the beach and in the launch. About Armstrong

Armstrong is a New Zealand foil company founded by Armie Armstrong, a pioneering windsurfer and watersports innovator. Armstrong's modular A+ System has set the industry standard for foil compatibility — front wings, masts, fuselages and stabilisers all interconnect across the Armstrong range, meaning riders can progress from S1 (Step 1) beginner foils through to HA (High Aspect) racing foils without replacing their mast or board fittings. Built in Thailand at Armstrong's own facility, designed in New Zealand, ridden by world-class athletes including Austin Tovey, Noah Flegel and Annie Reickert.

Môr Watersports is an authorised Armstrong dealer in North Wales — we hold stock, offer demo sessions where conditions allow, and ship across the UK with free postage.
