Description

Starboard's Above is the wing foil board built for the moment most riders actually want to learn in — light wind days, where every extra litre of volume helps you get up on foil sooner. Starboard's mid-length foilboard series engineered for effortless winging in light winds, with longer, narrower outlines that generate early lift-off and a stable, comfortable ride. A versatile blend of the Ace Foil and Take Off shapes in a mid-length format. Five UK-available sizes from a compact 6'10" × 21" (101 L) for confident progressing riders, through to a spacious 7'5" × 32" (155 L) for heavier riders and complete beginners. Three constructions — premium Blue Carbon, mid-tier Limited Series, and entry-level ASAP — starting at £1,099. The right board if you want to learn winging or progress your light-wind game in North Wales conditions. Free UK postage.

Note: The Above is sold as a board only — foils are sold separately. Call us on 01492 588001 if you'd like to discuss a complete foil package (board + foil + accessories).

Glide Sooner, Fly Longer

The Above range is our mid-length foilboard series engineered for effortless winging in light winds. Its longer, narrower outlines generate early lift-off and a stable, comfortable ride. This versatile range is a blend of the Ace Foil and Take Off model in a midlength size offering. New sizes now include options for both beginner riders and prone foil surfers.

Product features

Mid-length versatility

The larger sizes offer stability and ease, making them ideal for beginners. Paired with our durable ASAP construction, they're also the perfect choice for schools and centres. Mid-sized boards suit intermediate riders looking to progress, while the smaller models are tuned for advanced wave riding and prone foiling. With this updated range, we've redefined what an all-round wingfoil board can do — delivering confidence, control, and performance in every session.

Early lift-off & quick recovery

Additional volume in the nose and tail creates a balanced stance over the foil, generating early lift-off and rapid recovery on touchdown.

Predictable ride

A parallel mid-section and flat deck provide a predictable, balanced ride with excellent tracking and control for optimum stability.

Clean water release

Boxy rails, a rounded pin tail, and a refined bottom shape ensure clean, quick rebounds and efficient water exit for maximum speed.

7'4" × 23" | 120 L

The narrower width gives you fast acceleration onto foil without compromising stability. Designed with a spacious flat deck and Vee nose, this board propels off the water quickly and is ideal for larger riders and beginners needing smooth, steady foil transitions.

  • Rider weight (Wing Foil): up to 115 kg
  • Rider weight (SUP Foil): up to 85 kg

6'10" × 21" | 101 L

Constructions

Blue Carbon

Lightweight, strong, premium performance

Premium racing-grade construction featuring 150g Biaxial Carbon wrapping over a high-density PVC foam core, reinforced in the critical impact zones for durability and direct power transfer. The lightest of the three Above constructions — the choice for performance riders who want maximum responsiveness.

Limited Series

Durable performance with classic Starboard build

Featuring Australian Pine wood reinforcements underfoot, carbon patches in the stress zones, and full-length glass wrapping for impact protection without sacrificing performance. The mid-tier construction that balances weight, durability, and price.

ASAP

Light, strong, affordable

  • Extra rigidity with unidirectional stringer bands and solid rail and nose reinforcements.
  • Australian pine on the standing area for extra impact resistance and rigidity in the most critical area.
  • Comes with shoulder carry strap inserts (Starboard shoulder carry strap can be purchased aftermarket).
  • All inserts have added high-density foam reinforcements.

The entry-level construction in the Above range — the right choice for schools, clubs, and progressing riders who want a real Starboard at the most accessible price.

Honest advice from us

The Above is genuinely the wing foil board most people should start with — the larger volume sizes give you the float to get up on foil in lighter wind, and the mid-length shape forgives the kind of inputs that send shorter boards underwater.

Which size? A clearer guide than the volume-only numbers Starboard publishes:

  • 155 L (7'5" × 32") — heavier riders up to 130kg or anyone learning wing foiling who wants maximum float for early sessions.
  • 143 L (7'5" × 29") — riders up to 120kg learning or progressing. Strong all-rounder.
  • 136 L (7'5" × 26") — intermediate sweet spot. Confident wing foilers up to 110kg, faster takeoffs than the wider sizes.
  • 120 L (7'4" × 23") — intermediate-to-advanced riders up to 115kg wanting acceleration and progression.
  • 101 L (6'10" × 21") — smallest UK-available size. Progressing wing foilers wanting a more performance-focused ride.

Smaller prone foil sizes (90 L and under) are not available in UK — call us on 01492 588001 if you specifically need one and we'll see what Tushingham can do.

Which construction? ASAP at £1,149 (155L only on Môr) is the entry-level — the right choice if you're learning. Limited Series at £1,099–£1,149 is the mid-tier across all 5 sizes — Australian pine standing area, carbon stress-zone patches, full glass wrap. Blue Carbon at £1,849–£1,879 is the premium choice across all 5 sizes — 150g biaxial carbon over PVC foam, lightest and stiffest, for committed riders who want maximum performance.

A note on what you're buying: the Above is a board only. You'll also need a foil (mast + wings + fuselage) which is a separate purchase. Starboard's foils are excellent and we can advise on the right complete package for your weight, ability, and conditions — call us before ordering if you want a full package quote.
