The Above range is Starboard's mid-length foilboard designed for efficient glide and early lift onto foil in lighter winds. Longer, narrower outlines build speed quickly while maintaining control as riders rise onto foil. Larger sizes offer stability for learning, while smaller, narrower shapes deliver fast, efficient performance for progressing riders. 10 sizes from 34 L to 155 L, in Xtec Carbon, Xtec Carbon D2, Carbon D2, ZERO and SOHI constructions.
Product features
Mid-length glide efficiency
Longer, narrower outlines generate speed and glide efficiently, helping riders build speed and maintain smooth, efficient foiling.
Progression across the range
From wide, stable 7'5" learning boards to narrow high-performance shapes, the Above range supports riders from their first wing foil sessions through to advanced foiling.
Versatile foiling platform
Designed to perform across multiple disciplines including wing foiling, SUP foiling, foil assist, parawing and prone foiling, making the Above a highly adaptable foilboard range.
Vee nose design
The Vee-shaped nose reduces drag and softens touchdowns, helping the board recover smoothly and continue gliding forward when the nose touches the water.
Parallel mid-section
The straighter mid-section improves tracking and glide while creating a predictable, balanced trim as the board accelerates and lifts onto foil.
Flat deck
The flat deck maximises usable width for comfort and stability while maintaining a thin standing area for a direct, responsive connection to the foil.
Round pin tail
The rounded pin tail provides smooth water release and controlled acceleration while maintaining stability during touchdowns.
Customisable footstrap inserts
Multiple footstrap insert positions allow riders to fine-tune stance for control, comfort and performance across different foiling disciplines.
New for 2027 (60–110 L sizes)
- Extended waterline: refined shapes are 1" longer, extending the waterline to generate glide more efficiently and help riders build speed earlier when rising onto foil.
- Pulled-in nose outline: a narrower nose reduces swing weight, making the board feel lighter and more responsive while improving manoeuvrability once flying.
- Wider tail outline: a slightly wider tail creates a more stable platform when building speed, improving balance when pumping and helping riders lift onto foil more easily.
- X-15 inspired forward rails: sharper forward rails create cleaner water release, helping the board accelerate smoothly and rise onto foil more efficiently.
- Balanced standing thickness: even thickness between front and back foot positions creates a balanced stance and a more neutral flying sensation.
- Thinner nose and tail: reduced thickness in the extremities lowers swing weight and improves aerodynamic efficiency once airborne.

Ideal for wing foiling, SUP foiling, foil assist and parawing.
6'1" × 19" / 75 L
Rider weight: up to 85 kg. A compact mid-length board delivering fast glide and responsive performance. The longer waterline builds speed efficiently, while the pulled-in nose and refined thickness improve agility and control once airborne. Ideal for wing foiling, SUP foiling, foil assist and parawing.
5'7" × 18" / 60 L
Rider weight: up to 80 kg. A small performance mid-length combining efficient glide with a compact, agile feel. The refined outline improves acceleration while maintaining control when building speed onto foil. Perfect for wing foiling, SUP foiling, foil assist and parawing.
The range also includes a 5'0" × 17" / 45 L and a 4'7" × 16" / 34 L in Xtec Carbon; Starboard does not publish rider-weight guidance for these two sizes.

Constructions
ZERO — ultra-light hollow performance
ZERO is Starboard's lightest full carbon hollow construction. Its standout advantage is reduced swing weight: with less weight to control out front, the board feels a foot shorter through turns and when flying. The low weight also helps riders accelerate, lift onto foil earlier and stay flying with less effort. Refined through years of development, the latest ZERO construction improves stiffness and reliability while remaining exceptionally light.
- Ultra-light full carbon hollow construction
- Reduced swing weight for easier turns and control in flight
- Faster acceleration and earlier lift onto foil
- Greater efficiency once flying
- Multiple PVC stringers connect deck and bottom for a strong, lightweight frame
- Carbon and PVC hollow sandwich structure for strength-to-weight performance
Available in the 60, 75 and 90 L sizes.
Carbon D2 — ultra-lightweight performance
Carbon D2 is the lightest performance construction in the range, designed to maximise responsiveness while minimising weight. The reduced weight helps riders accelerate quickly, lift onto foil earlier and maintain efficient flight. A custom process uses traditional epoxy lamination instead of expanding epoxy resin, reducing weight while maintaining structural strength. Additional carbon reinforcements increase stiffness in key load areas while keeping the board light and responsive.
- Custom epoxy lamination process reduces weight while maintaining strength
- Additional carbon standing reinforcements increase stiffness and responsiveness
- Carbon Load Frame rail band improves stiffness and breaking strength
- Foil box carbon reinforcement strengthens the highest load area
- PVC Omega stringer prevents buckling in front of the foil box
Available in the 60, 75, 90, 100 and 110 L sizes.
Xtec Carbon D2 — lightweight performance
Xtec Carbon D2 builds on the Xtec Carbon construction while reducing overall board weight. The D2 structure optimises the internal layup to remove unnecessary material, creating a lighter board that accelerates easily, lifts onto foil sooner and requires less energy to stay flying. Like Xtec Carbon, it uses expanding epoxy resin to create a durable sandwich structure that maintains strength and impact resistance. A Carbon Load Frame rail band increases stiffness and breaking strength, while carbon reinforcements around the foil box strengthen the highest load area.
- D2 lightweight structure: optimised internal layup reduces board weight for easier acceleration and earlier lift onto foil
- Expanding epoxy sandwich structure: maintains strength and impact resistance while supporting the lightweight D2 design
- Carbon Load Frame rail band: increases overall stiffness and total breaking strength
- Foil box carbon reinforcement: strengthens the board in the highest load area during foiling
- PVC Omega stringer: extended arrow-shaped PVC Omega stringer spreads loads and helps prevent buckling in front of the foil box
Available in the 60, 75, 90, 100, 110, 136, 143 and 155 L sizes.
Xtec Carbon — strength and durability
Xtec Carbon is a durable construction designed to provide reliable strength for everyday foiling. It uses an expanding epoxy resin that creates a sandwich-like internal structure, increasing impact resistance and overall durability while maintaining structural stiffness. A Carbon Load Frame rail band increases stiffness and improves the board's total breaking strength so it can handle the loads generated during foiling. Carbon reinforcements around the foil box strengthen the highest load area of the board. Additional reinforcements around the standing area and footstrap inserts help prevent heel dents and improve durability during regular use.
- Sandwich structure: creates a durable internal structure that increases strength and impact resistance
- Carbon Load Frame rail band: increases overall stiffness and total breaking strength
- Foil box carbon reinforcement: strengthens the board in the highest load area during foiling
- Reinforced standing area: additional reinforcements around footstrap inserts help prevent heel dents
- PVC Omega stringer: extended arrow-shaped PVC stringer in front of the foil box
Available in the 34 and 45 L sizes.
SOHI — soft outside, hard inside
- Impact-resistant high-density EVA wraps the full rail from nose to tail, creating a soft and forgiving surface that protects riders and equipment. Ideal for schools, centres and families when learning and progressing.
- Multiple layers of high-grade fibreglass laminated with epoxy resin reinforce the hull for strength and durability.
- Australian pine standing area increases rigidity and impact resistance, protecting against heel dents when foiling.
- PVC reinforcement around the foil box strengthens the highest load area and improves impact resistance under foil pressure.
- Unidirectional stringer bands add rigidity, with additional rail and nose reinforcements for overall structural strength.
Available in the 155 L size.
