Starboard's Pro is the performance-focused surf SUP for paddlers who already know what they're doing in the lineup — a multiple-world-championship-winning shape that's been refined over years of feedback from athletes like Benoit Carpentier, Zane Schweitzer, and Leonard Nika. Where the Spice is the "quiver killer" do-it-all, the Pro is the specialist tool for committed surfers who want absolute high-performance response. 9 sizes from a compact 6'10" pro shortboard up to a 9'6" big-wave Gun, across three constructions: the ultra-light Blue Carbon Sandwich, the bigger-wave-specific Blue Carbon Gun build, and the Limited Series for riders who want the same shape at a lower price point. Free UK postage.
Surf Like A Pro
The PRO is our multiple-world-championship-winning model designed to deliver pro-level performance. It features super-thin rails for excellent grip in turns and comes in various sizes to suit different riders and wave conditions. Experience radical snaps, fast speeds, and incredible drive with the Pro range.
Performance shapes for serious riders seeking world-class waves
"Super stoked about the new Pro range, I feel like we found the perfect high-performance shape, no more hesitation going for a big bottom turn, everything seems possible. That's the result of many years of research and I'm loving it!"
— Benoit Carpentier, Multiple SUP Surf World Champion
Product features
Performance thin rails
Thin rails reduce swing weight at the nose, enhancing pivot speed through turns. Fuller rails in the midsection maintain speed, while thinner rails at the tail provide increased bite and control.
Narrow nose outline
The narrow nose fits tight into the pocket of hollow waves, reducing the nose catching during fast, explosive turns. The rail line helps draw a precise line and enables you to tuck into the critical section of the wave on late, steep drops.
Deck shape
The deck remains fairly flat to provide comfort and stability in choppy conditions, conserving energy for longer sessions. It transitions to a slight dome as the rails thin out.
Rail shape
A sharp rail edge from the tail to just in front of the fins helps create a firm edge for control and responsive grip through turns. Forward of the fins, the rails soften and roll to aid in transitioning between maneuvers and maintaining speed.
Bottom shape
Single concave provides lift and speed, feeding through to a double midsection and slight vee at the tail to manoeuvre and rock from rail to rail.
Rocker curve
The moderate nose rocker prevents catching on steep drops and turns. A flattened midsection boosts speed, while a clean tail kick curve allows for snappy turns and easy rotation, blending speed with maneuverability.
Squash tail
Gives the most versatile performance in all wave types, particularly holding in bigger surf.
Fin options
The 5-fin setup offers 4+1 and 2+1 options, allowing choice based on riding style and wave conditions. Updated fin angles enhance front splay for maneuverability and reduce rear angle for drive.
All models feature a 2+1 setup: 4.7 front fins with 120 or 140 center fins on larger sizes.
Blue Carbon Sandwich boards include Prepreg Carbon fins, while the Limited Series uses Armacore fins.
Board sock
Reduces paper waste and protects your board from dust, scratches, and UV damage. Made of stretchable polyester, it fits various board shapes and has a secure drawstring closure.
Sizes
9'6" × 27" / 122L Gun
Designed as a step-up model for surfing big waves. The narrower nose outline optimises speed so you can race down the wave face and escape white water in critical sections. The pin tail angles are straighter for increased speed and drive. Thin rails and a slight vee at the tail help you harness the speed for controlled bottom turns.
9'0" × 30" / 144L
Remains a favourite for heavier riders up to 120 kg. The new outline is faster generating speed and easier to rotate through turns as it has reduced swing weight. A great option if you want max stability with pro surfing performance.
8'7" × 29.5" / 130L
The 8'7" retains the same dimensions, yet feels more stable and less corky from the flatter deck. The fine rails and sharp squash tail hold well in the bigger surf, allowing you to feel more in control to push harder on your bottom turns! A slightly flatter tail rocker and pulled-in nose translates into a faster down-the-line speed.
8'2" × 29" / 118L
The 8'2" replaces the previous 8'0", extending the length to catch waves that bit earlier and to hold its line in steeper drops. The 8'2" at 118 L will be highly popular for riders up to 95kg. The new fin position gives you the needed bite and manoeuvrability, coupled with drive-through turns!
7'10" × 28" / 104L
The 7'10" is slightly thinner yet longer than the previous 7'7", making the float feel less corky despite the reduced volume. The added length and narrower nose aids late entry in hollower waves, giving you more speed to confidently make critical sections. Squash tail feels smooth and secure when you drive off the bottom and hit the lip!
7'5" × 26.75" / 92L
Feeling like a surfboard, the 7'5" was a hit among testers for its ability to float riders up to 80kg, yet turn heads in performance! The narrow nose wants to whip through turns and allows you to sit deep in the pocket of waves. The higher nose rocker feels more forgiving, while the thin rails nose and tail feel ultra-responsive to foot pressure.
7'2" × 23.5" / 74L
Unleash your potential in bigger, hollower waves with the groundbreaking 7'2" Pro model. This board, requested by Zane Schweitzer and Benoit Carpentier, takes performance to new heights. Featuring dimensions of 2" longer and half an inch narrower than the World Championship-winning 7'0"x24" Pro model, it excels in steep drops and barrel riding. The narrower outline ensures faster speeds, while the pulled-in rounded pin tail with super thin rails provides effortless bottom turns and solid control in challenging surf.
7'0" × 24" / 75L
"The 7'0" shape feels amazing, really reactive and more high performance" — Benoit Carpentier. Between rail shape, outline and fin position, the 7'0" delivers more control in bigger surf and carries it flow to link manoeuvres. Leonard Nika loved the feeling of the new model, giving the confidence to improve and progress his surfing to the next level!
6'10" × 24"
The smallest size in the Pro range — a compact, ultra-responsive pro shortboard for lightweight advanced riders chasing maximum manoeuvrability. Starboard's site does not publish a dedicated size profile for this length; for sizing advice on the 6'10", call us on 01492 588001.
Constructions
Blue Carbon Sandwich
Lightest and strongest
- Based on the world proven and award-winning Carbon Sandwich construction, the Blue Carbon Sandwich features a full PVC wrap and the lightest 100g biaxial carbon fiber in the market.
- Highest grade 100g biax carbon wraps the full deck, rail and bottom.
- Thin high-density PVC wraps the entire board with an extra-strong PET standing reinforcement reduces resin uptake and increases the overall strength.
- The sensational lightweight increases carving ability and acceleration.
Blue Carbon (Gun construction — 9'6" only)
Lightweight, strong and durable, 2× Carbon stringer
- Built in a custom surf technology, the Gun uses a higher density EPS core for greater total breakage strength to handle bigger surf.
- Top grade 150g Biaxial Carbon wraps the entire board, joining with an overlap on the deck and bottom to create flat stringer, increasing the total breakage strength.
- 2 skins of durable fibre glass form a sandwich around the biaxial Carbon, protecting the carbon by dampening and absorbing the impact.
- Multiple reinforcements in the standing area, nose and tail increase impact resistance.
Limited Series
Timeless look, solid performance
- Twin T-stringers made from glass fibre are positioned on the deck and bottom of the board close to the rail, providing a massive increase in the overall strength against total breakage in surf.
- An additional wide layer of 200g glass wraps the rails for higher strength against paddle impact and further reinforces the overall strength against buckling.
- The deck features reinforced biaxial glass and Australian pine, to resist heel dents and impact from the standing area.
- The nose and tail are wrapped in multiple layers of glass fiber for further strength on these impact zones.
Honest advice from us
The Pro is a serious paddler's board — not a quiver killer like the Spice, but a specialist tool for committed SUP surfers who want pro-level response and aren't compromising on performance for versatility.
Which size? A rough guide: 6'10" / 7'0" / 7'2" sizes are for confident lightweight riders chasing maximum manoeuvrability in hollow surf; 7'5" suits sub-80kg paddlers wanting a surfboard-like feel; 7'10" and 8'2" are the workhorse pro sizes for intermediate-to-advanced UK paddlers up to 95kg; the 8'7" is the sweet spot for everyday pro surfing across most conditions; the 9'0" prioritises stability for heavier riders up to 120kg with full Pro performance; and the 9'6" Gun is a specialist big-wave step-up board, NOT a standard Pro shape.
Which construction? Blue Carbon Sandwich is the premium choice — lightest, stiffest, with Prepreg Carbon fins included. Limited Series is the same shape with Armacore fins at a meaningfully lower price (£1,150 saving). The 9'6" Gun is Blue Carbon only — a higher-density build specifically for big waves.
