Description
Starboard's Spice is the surf paddleboard that earns its "quiver killer" reputation — one board that handles the full range of conditions a UK surf SUPer encounters, from punchy onshore Anglesey beachbreaks to glassy reef days on the Llyn Peninsula. The 2025 line covers eight sizes from a 6'9" advanced shortboard up to a 10'3" stability-led large-rider option, with bevelled rails, a wing tail, and a concave bottom shape that come together to make rail-to-rail transitions feel almost effortless. Available in three constructions: the premium Blue Carbon for performance riders, and Limited Series / Limited Series Blue for riders who want the same performance shape at a lower price point with Armacore fins. Free UK postage.
The Quiver Killer: Performance & fun
A quiver killer that blends performance and fun into one board. Experience incredible rail carving, impressive speed, and instant drive. From beveled thin rails to a wing tail and concave bottom shape, these design elements work in harmony, delivering a ride that synchronizes speed, power, and flow.
Product features
Unique bevelled rail
The unique bevelled rail shape makes turning both responsive and easy. The slightest foot pressure and the board just rolls in the direction you want to go. The rails are super fine both in the nose and tail, reducing the swing weight through your turns and giving you direct response when applying pressure on the rail.
New size for heavier riders
The Spice has had outstanding interest, and now we have added a new size 10'3" x 32.5". After great feedback from our Spice lineup, we expanded to this larger size to offer entry level paddlers the chance to jump into a truly great performing model straight away. This new larger size offers more glide and amazing stability for heavier riders.
New Limited Series Blue featured in 2025 collection
Bevelled rail
Features three key benefits: It reduces planing area, boosting speed and acceleration. The bevel angle enables effortless rail-to-rail transitions, enhancing responsiveness for pumping and carving. The thinner, pinched rail demands less foot pressure to initiate turns.
Nose outline
Provides stability and extends the rail line for faster speed. Thin tapered rail profile helps reduce swing weight from the nose to enhance manoeuvrability and speed through turns.
Parallel and thick midsection
Parallel outline helps engage the rail for good speed down the line while thicker midsection provides float and carries speed down the line and momentum through smaller surf.
Slight domed deck
Helps keep rails thin for response yet gives enough float in the centre buoyancy of the board.
Wing tail
The Wing tail creates a break in the rail line, giving stability from the extra width forwards, while narrowing behind the wing for better control and response. The rails are kept thin at the tail for more manoeuvrability.
Round pin tail
Offers good drive out of turns and holds well in bigger surf.
Five fin option
Allows for 4+1 and 2+1 fin setups. Choose based on your riding style and wave conditions. Updated fin angles offer more front splay for maneuverability and less rear angle for drive.
All models include a 4+1 setup with 4.7 front and 4.5 rear fins, except the 10'3", which has a thruster setup with a 170 center and 4.7 front fins.
Carbon surf fin
The new, ultra-light carbon surf fins will enhance your performance in the waves, providing more drive, stronger grip, and faster speed out of turns.
Comes only with a Blue Carbon board. Limited Series comes with Armacore fins.
Board sock
Reduces paper waste and protects your board from dust, scratches, and UV damage. Made of stretchable polyester, it fits various board shapes and has a secure drawstring closure.
Sizes
10'3" × 32.75" / 174L
The 10'3" suits larger riders, and follows the same design language as our smaller Spice sizes: including the bevelled rails for excellent drive and speed down the line. We offering a more dedicated SUP surf mode with good cruising capabilities. We feel that the large spice delivers excellent surfing performance without any stability loss. Ideal for larger riders looking for a longer surf specific design.
9'3" × 32.75" / 153L
The 9'3" is the biggest in the range, designed to be the most stable option for heavier riders between 100-130 kg. The length glides easily when catching waves and gives you good speed to quickly paddle back out to catch another ride. This board gives you ultra-stable ride.
8'8" × 32" / 140L
This board is sure to be a favourite among riders that want to save energy and maximise surf time. Long enough to get you into waves, yet compact for you to whip around and fit into sections without your nose catching through turns.
8'2" × 30.75" / 121L
The 8'2" was Trevor Tunnington's favourite model during the development in Portugal. This size is easy to paddle yet reacts on a dime from the thin bevelled rails. Fast, Stable and on point, the performance defies its size.
7'11" × 29" / 106L
The 7'11" is a lot of fun and full of surprises! The length allows you to perform radical turns and fit tight in the critical section of the waves without the nose catching. At 29", the width gives you enough float without hindering speed or manoeuvrability.
7'4" × 27" / 90L
Specifically designed for riders weighing up to 85kg, this board offers unrivalled surfing performance. The length allows for seamless turns without nose-catching, while the 27" width enables fast and explosive manoeuvrers. Ideal for those seeking additional volume over the 6'9" without compromising high-performance riding, this model is a must-have addition for many.
6'9" × 25.5" / 79L
Ideal for higher skilled or lighter riders between 50-70 kg. World Champion Benoit Carpentier requested to make the 6'9" so, he could compete on it when conditions were not so ideal for the Pro. The 6'9" is also ideal for lighter riders who want the most compact design with the best manoeuvrability.
6'9" × 24.5" / 73L
Experience the next level of SUP surfing with the 6'9" x 24.5" Spice. Designed in collaboration with elite riders Zane Schweitzer and Benoit Carpentier, this board redefines performance boundaries. With a 73L volume and a 1" narrower width, it offers advanced riders unparalleled maneuverability, explosive turns, and impressive speeds. Tested and approved by Zane and Benoit themselves, this model is the ultimate choice for lightweight riders seeking to elevate their skills across all wave conditions.
Constructions
Blue Carbon
Lightweight, strong and durable, 4x wood Omega stringers
- Top grade 150g Biaxial Carbon wraps the entire board, joining with an overlap on the deck and bottom to create flat stringer, increasing the total breakage strength.
- 2 skins of durable fibre glass form a sandwich around the biaxial Carbon, protecting the carbon by dampening and absorbing the impact.
- Twin omega stringers are recessed deck and bottom to prevent total breakage strength.
- Multiple reinforcements in the standing area, nose and tail increase impact resistance.
Limited Series
Timeless look, solid performance
- Twin T-stringers made from glass fibre are positioned on the deck and bottom of the board close to the rail, providing a massive increase in the overall strength against total breakage in surf.
- An additional wide layer of 200g glass wraps the rails for higher strength against paddle impact and further reinforces the overall strength against buckling.
- The deck features reinforced biaxial glass and Australian pine, to resist heel dents and impact from the standing area.
- The nose and tail are wrapped in multiple layers of glass fiber for further strength on these impact zones.
Limited Series Blue
Timeless look, solid performance — Blue colourway
Same construction as the standard Limited Series (twin T-stringers, glass-wrapped rails, reinforced deck) with a distinctive blue deck design featured in the 2025 collection.
Honest advice from us
The Spice's "quiver killer" tagline is genuine — for most UK surf SUPers, one Spice covers conditions that would otherwise need two or three boards.
Which size? A rough guide: 6'9" sizes are for confident lighter riders (sub-70kg) chasing performance; 7'4" and 7'11" suit most intermediate-to-advanced UK paddlers up to 85kg; the 8'2" and 8'8" are the sweet spot for paddlers wanting versatility across waves and conditions; the 9'3" and 10'3" prioritise stability for heavier riders or those preferring a more cruisy SUP-surf style.
Which construction? Blue Carbon is the premium choice — lighter, stiffer, faster (and includes the carbon surf fins). Limited Series gets you the same performance shape with Armacore fins at a meaningfully lower price. Limited Series Blue is the same as Limited Series with the 2025 blue colourway.
