Description
The Armstrong Performance-X Carbon Mast is the top of the carbon mast trilogy — a specialist, efficiency-focused mast designed for advanced riders chasing maximum glide, speed and a freer turning feel. With an ultra-thin 11.8 mm profile and Ultra-High Modulus carbon construction, it minimises drag while maintaining control, delivering a fast, loose and highly efficient ride.
Four lengths from 725 to 935 mm cover everything from compact surf foiling through downwind and longer-mast wing sessions. Fully compatible with the Armstrong A+ System. Free UK postage.
Three Years In The Making
Product overview
After three years of focused development, the new Armstrong mast range is built to meet the demands of modern foiling. Designed to offer a mast for every rider, discipline and condition, it pushes the boundaries of carbon construction highlighted by Armstrong's refined 11.8 mm profile. As rider expectations continue to evolve, this range delivers the stiffness, efficiency and control needed to perform and progress at every level.
The Performance-X Carbon Mast 11.8 mm is a deliberate choice for riders who prioritise glide speed and refined turning feel over maximum stiffness. Ideal for downwind, fast winging and clean carving lines. 10% more torsional stiffness and 10% more bending stiffness than the outgoing Performance Mast generation.
Key features
Ultra-High Modulus carbon construction. Built from Ultra-High Modulus carbon, the Performance-X Mast 11.8 mm pushes the limit of what's possible in layer engineering. This next-gen material unlocks a specific combination of low weight, high stiffness and refined flex characteristics that aren't achievable with standard high-modulus carbon.
11.8 mm refined profile. The thinnest profile in the Armstrong mast range. Less drag, more efficiency, faster on the water.
10% more torsional stiffness, 10% more bending stiffness. Versus the previous generation Performance Mast. Sharper response without losing the controlled flex that defines Armstrong's ride feel.
Specialist, efficiency-focused. Where the Performance MkII is the all-rounder and the MkII Carbon is the entry-tier, the Performance-X is the choice for riders chasing speed, glide and a looser turning feel — typically downwind, racing, and fast wing foiling.
Armstrong A+ System compatibility. Proprietary connection system with industry-leading stiffness, durability and modularity. Pairs with every Armstrong front foil, fuselage and stabiliser.
Length guide
725 mm. Shortest length — ideal for surf foiling, prone, smaller riders or where you want maximum manoeuvrability and minimum mast in the water.
795 mm. The all-round sweet spot for wing foilers — enough mast to clear chop, short enough for tight turning. Most common choice.
865 mm. Longer wing/downwind length — more chop clearance, more height above water, particularly suited to bigger swell, downwind and heavier riders.
935 mm. Maximum length — specialist downwind and lighter-wind wing foiling where every centimetre of clearance matters.

Honest advice from us
The Performance-X is the top tier of Armstrong's three-mast carbon range. Where it fits:
- MkII Carbon Mast (£809–£959) — the entry-tier carbon mast. Same 11.8 mm profile and A+ System, just less premium carbon. Right answer for most riders stepping up from alloy.
- Performance MkII Carbon Mast (£1,499–£1,639) — the all-rounder. Stiffer than the MkII, designed for direct response and confidence across surf, wing and downwind.
- Performance-X Carbon Mast (£2,139–£2,269) — the specialist. Loosest, fastest, glidiest of the three. Trades a touch of absolute stiffness for refined feel and minimum drag.
Which length? If you're winging and unsure, the 795 mm is the most common all-round size and likely the right pick. If you're primarily downwinding, prone surfing in chop, or chasing wing foil top speed in clean conditions, go longer (865 or 935). If you're surfing reef breaks or want a compact setup, the 725 is the right choice.
Who is this for? Advanced riders who already know what they want from a mast. Riders who've spent time on a Performance MkII or earlier Performance carbon and are looking for the upgrade. Downwinders chasing speed and glide. Racers. Riders for whom the price tag isn't the limiting factor.
Who isn't this for? First-time foilers (start with an Alloy or MkII Carbon). Riders prioritising absolute stiffness over efficiency (the Performance MkII is stiffer). Anyone who'd struggle to feel the difference between top-tier carbon masts — the gap to the Performance MkII is small and not worth the £500+ premium unless you specifically want what the PX offers.
About this mast in North Wales. The PX excels in the long flatwater stretches around Red Wharf Bay and the Penmaenmawr side-shore wind — conditions where its efficiency advantage pays off. In typical Conwy Bay chop you'll feel the difference vs an alloy or MkII Carbon, but the gap to a Performance MkII is more subtle. About Armstrong
Armstrong is a New Zealand foil company founded by Armie Armstrong, a pioneering windsurfer and watersports innovator. Armstrong's modular A+ System has set the industry standard for foil compatibility — front wings, masts, fuselages and stabilisers all interconnect across the Armstrong range, meaning riders can progress from S1 (Step 1) beginner foils through to HA (High Aspect) racing foils without replacing their mast or board fittings. Built in Thailand at Armstrong's own facility, designed in New Zealand, ridden by world-class athletes including Austin Tovey, Noah Flegel and Annie Reickert.
Môr Watersports is an authorised Armstrong dealer in North Wales — we hold stock, offer demo sessions where conditions allow, and ship across the UK with free postage.
