The Take Off features a compact outline with a narrower nose designed for responsive wave and freestyle wing foiling. The shape accelerates quickly, lifts onto foil easily and recovers smoothly from touchdowns. Smaller sizes prioritise agility and manoeuvrability, while larger sizes also perform well for freeride wing foiling and SUP foiling. 6 sizes from 50 L to 105 L, in Carbon D2 or Xtec Carbon D2.
Product features
Performance wave foiling
The compact outline delivers responsive handling, smooth touchdowns and precise control for dynamic wave riding.
Freestyle-ready control
Balanced volume, refined rocker and optimised footstrap positioning provide stability and control for jumps, turns and progressive freestyle manoeuvres.
Highly versatile foilboard range
Larger sizes perform well for SUP foiling and freeride wing foiling, while the smaller boards excel in wave and freestyle wing foiling, allowing riders to choose the size that best suits their riding style.
Vee nose design
The Vee nose design softens touchdowns and helps the board recover smoothly after jumps, turns and manoeuvres.
Balanced volume distribution
Balanced nose, tail and rail volume provides stability before lifting onto foil and control while flying.
Performance outline
A pulled-in nose improves turning and helps prevent the nose catching through waves, while the fuller tail provides buoyancy and stability when building speed to lift onto foil.
New for 2027 (selected sizes)
- Refined nose rocker: the nose rocker is slightly reduced, helping the board accelerate faster and lift onto foil earlier while remaining forgiving during touchdowns.
- Fuller tail volume: additional tail volume improves trim balance and stability when building speed onto foil.
- Forward foil box position: the foil box is moved slightly forward to improve trim when lifting onto foil and to support freestyle manoeuvres.
- Updated footstrap positions: footstrap positions are refined for improved control during wave riding and freestyle manoeuvres.
Reinforced foil box system
Reinforced foil boxes compatible with most foil brands. Boards of 6'0" and larger use a 14" box, while 5'7" and smaller boards use a 12" box for compact wave and freestyle performance.
Sizes
6'6" × 25" / 105 L
Rider weight: wing foil 100 kg, SUP foil 95 kg. A versatile crossover board suited to freeride wing foiling and SUP foiling. The balanced outline provides smooth acceleration, quick turns and stable recovery, making it ideal for riders around 90 kg in SUP foiling or 100 kg in wing foiling.
6'0" × 24" / 95 L
Rider weight: wing foil 95 kg, SUP foil 90 kg. A fast, well-balanced board bridging freeride and performance. It offers efficient glide for SUP foiling while remaining agile and responsive for freeride wing foiling, making it ideal for intermediate riders.
5'7" × 22.5" / 90 L
Rider weight: wing foil 90 kg, SUP foil 80 kg. Compact and responsive, the 90 L is narrow enough for early flight and agile wave riding while maintaining enough buoyancy for confident starts and smooth progression in wing foiling.
5'3" × 21.5" / 75 L
Rider weight: wing foil 80 kg. A highly versatile size with wide appeal. The 75 L provides reliable float when wind conditions are patchy, while the narrower 21.5" outline delivers responsive handling and strong performance in wave riding and freestyle wing foiling.
4'10" × 20" / 60 L
Rider weight: wing foil 75 kg. A performance board designed for wave and freestyle wing foiling. The compact outline delivers quick acceleration and agile handling, while the thicker standing area allows more riders to enjoy this size across a wider wind range.
4'8" × 19" / 50 L
Rider weight: wing foil 70 kg. A high-performance board for advanced wave and freestyle wing foiling. The compact shape rotates quickly while the narrower outline enables sharper turns in waves without catching rails. A favourite of riders like Benoit Carpentier and Xavier Corr when pushing progressive performance.

Constructions
Carbon D2 — new ultra-lightweight performance
Carbon D2 is the lightest performance construction in the range, reducing board weight for faster acceleration, earlier lift onto foil and efficient flight. Unlike Xtec constructions that use expanding epoxy resin, Carbon D2 uses a traditional epoxy lamination to minimise weight while maintaining structural strength. On the Take Off, an additional PVC standing area is integrated to improve impact resistance during freestyle jumping and wave riding.
- Semi-custom traditional epoxy lamination for reduced weight
- Additional carbon standing reinforcements for stiffness and responsiveness
- PVC standing area reinforcement (Take Off) for impact resistance during jumps
- Carbon Load Frame rail band for increased stiffness and breaking strength
- Foil box carbon reinforcement for high-load durability
- PVC Omega stringer to prevent buckling in front of the foil box
Xtec Carbon D2 — lightweight performance
Xtec Carbon D2 builds on the Xtec Carbon construction while reducing overall board weight. The D2 structure optimises the internal layup to remove unnecessary material, creating a lighter board that accelerates easily, lifts onto foil sooner and requires less energy to stay flying. Like Xtec Carbon, it uses expanding epoxy resin to create a durable sandwich structure that maintains strength and impact resistance. A Carbon Load Frame rail band increases stiffness and breaking strength, while carbon reinforcements around the foil box strengthen the highest load area.
- D2 lightweight structure: optimised internal layup reduces board weight for easier acceleration and earlier lift onto foil
- Expanding epoxy sandwich structure: maintains strength and impact resistance while supporting the lightweight D2 design
- Carbon Load Frame rail band: increases overall stiffness and total breaking strength
- Foil box carbon reinforcement: strengthens the board in the highest load area during foiling
- PVC Omega stringer: extended arrow-shaped PVC stringer spreads loads and helps prevent buckling in front of the foil box
Honest advice from us
The Take Off is Starboard's compact wave and freestyle wing foil board, and the larger sizes double as crossover boards for freeride wing foiling and SUP foiling. Starboard points the 6'6" × 25" / 105 L at riders around 90 kg in SUP foiling or 100 kg in wing foiling, the 6'0" × 24" / 95 L at intermediate riders, and the 4'8" × 19" / 50 L at advanced wave and freestyle riders. Carbon D2 is the lightest option; Xtec Carbon D2 is available in the 75, 90, 95 and 105 L sizes. For help choosing a size or construction, call us on 01492 588001.
